Last year's fright

A year ago today, it was a dark peaceful night Everything was going great. It was almost the end of my senior year in high school. I was working at Steak N Shake and finally putting a little cash in my bank account. Baseball had started and I had the feeling I was actually going to be able to get some playing time.  To top it all off, prom was just around the corner, so I was getting fitted for my tux. Little did I know that such a perfect evening could end so badly, yet in the end turn out so awesome. I had no idea when I left the tux shop that in 45 minutes I would be walking alongside the road with blood streaming from my face, trying to get help. I'm so thankful for my neighbors who stopped and helped, the mysterious nurses that happened to be passing by and stabilized my head, the fire department and EMTs who took me to the hospital and the doctors who worked on me. When I look back, I'm amazed that even though my C1 and C2 vertebrae were fractured, I wasn't paralyzed and was still able to  pursue my dream of becoming a jockey. In reality, I shouldn't even be alive. I have no idea why I am still alive, but there is One who does know.   One day, I hope to find out why I was kept alive the evening of March 14th 2011.

At this one year anniversary, I would like to once again express my thanks to my parents for taking care of me during my months in the halo, the faculty and students at RB for being so kind, helpful and understanding, all the people who stopped by to visit and those who gave generous gifts.  You all helped me pull through such a traumatic point in my life. If you haven't read about the frightful night of March 14th, you can read the story here.

Be thankful for every minute.
